I took this video over the weekend, and I just can’t explain to you how happy I was when the first nestling explored the outside of their nest. Usually, nestlings would fledge three weeks from hatching, and will explore the cage without regard to their parents and even you. They would miss your provided perch a million times, and although this can look funny, there’s a simple awe that you might feel knowing that the chick is just learning how to be a bird. They would also grip the railings on the floor because their feet are yet too small and are not wide enough to prevent them from falling towards the “shit” pan. Take a look at this new family after the jump.
