Yeah, all my birds have been taken already except for a pair of OB that the buyer allowed me to keep. The buyer doesn't want me to give out her name but yes, it was a girl who bought all my birds. Send me a message if you want to get your hands on some OB next time, maybe by then, I would have some available already. Thanks.

@Greg, how's Australia, besides the birds shops?

@Seona, again thanks for the interview. So it's official--you're letting go of the birds. That's a bit sad I think, but I just wanted to know if you'll be keeping some OBs because I want to get my hands on them sometime. And who's the lucky buyer who will benefit from all your breeding hardwork?

I wouldn't call it a business because is was more of a hobby for me, although the reason why I started was because of the money I can make out of it. My objective changed from collecting a pair of all the finches available in the country to collecting all the mutations of zebra finches here. I think I was only able to collect around 20 different ones, or less.

The part regarding weird mutations coming up from normal pairs amazes me too. During the course of my breeding process I've seen my jumbo fawn pair produce 3 jumbo BCs, a BFBC x BB produce whites and CFWs, and some other weird combination.

My 2 flight cages are not in very good condition but I do have some 17x30, 18x34, and 17x32, double cages available. I'm going to have it cleaned first before I post it for sale. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that Stan or anyone has to get out of the business. I can well understand the business aspect getting side-lined by the obsession. I only have two pairs of zebras in a mixed collection and one of the pairs aren't too enamoured with each other – in fact they each prefer the company of the shaft-tailed finches so I envy your ability to separately house breeding pairs but it does take a lot of work.

While I don’t think that I’ve reinvent the wheel with zebras was I was amazed to see a normal and fawn pair fledge to day from the same nest when I was assured of the purity of their normal parents. Maybe certain mutations do turn-up de-novo. Have you ever had that experience? Such a pity a lutino or pure black didn’t pop into existence.

I had 3 weeks in Australia over Christmas/New Year and visited a couple of bird shops in Sydney. I can’t say I noticed too many zebras but I was blinded by the variety of species available there. Not that anyone can even get a mutant zebra can get out of there but the other foreign finches can be exported – I just wish someone would import some.

Cats certainly are the bane of existence for most bird keepers I’ve got two and mostly they sow no interest in the aviary but that doesn’t mean they aren’t interested since they have presented my sparrows, shrikes, a colossi parrot and an array of native lizards and snakes. When I was younger I lost a canary, a pair of zebras, a pair of owls and a star finch all in one night to a brown snake that got into my aviary. It was damned hard to catch in the aviary and remove too. It’s hard not to want retribution after such a raid but I let it go. That’s something I’m sure would never happen here and luckily it wasn’t a financial disaster as most were birds that I’d caught myself.

If you do give up on birds and want to get rid of your flight cage please email me as I may be interested.
